- Writers’ Tears is only whiskey globally with two expressions listed in elite list of 21 whiskeys
Carlow, Ireland – 24 October 2019: Walsh Whiskey has scored a double coup as a result of its Writers’ Tears whiskey range being the only whiskey in the world to have two expressions included in the prestigious Whisky Advocate list of highest-scoring whiskeys reviewed this Fall/Autumn. Writers’ Tears – Double Oak and Writers’ Tears – Cask Strength (2019) are also the only Irish whiskeys to make the list.
Writers’ Tears – Double Oak, first released in May (2019), has been named in Whiskey Advocate’s list of the 10 highest-scoring whiskeys, out of 150 whiskeys reviewed, in the magazine’s Fall 2019 edition. Awarded 94 points, the second highest score of all whiskeys reviewed, Writers’ Tears – Double Oak’s recommended retail price of €55/ £45/ $65 is excellent value at approximately half the average price of the Top 10 whiskeys listed.
Reviewing for Whisky Advocate, Jonny McCormick cited Writers’ Tears – Double Oak as follows: “This blend of single malt and pot still whiskeys exhibits the incredible synergy between chocolate, cinnamon, and pot still spices. Vinous at times from partial cognac-cask maturation, this has aromas of dark berry fruit, cinnamon, fudge, milk chocolate, malt biscuits, jellied fruit, and a smudge of dry spices. Compelling, well-structured whiskey, with cinnamon, chocolate, dark toffee, pepper, and ginger. It’s never cloying, nor overly sweet, just a richly rewarding glass.”
Writers’ Tears – Double Oak, is aged in two types of wood – American and French Oak. It is triple-distilled, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV. The expression is made possible by a close collaboration between the Walsh family in Ireland’s County Carlow and the Legaret family in Cognac, France.
Whisky Advocate also gave ‘Honourable Mention’ listed Writers’ Tears – Cask Strength (2019), which it scored at 93 points.
