Exclusive distribution deal signed with Dugas at Vinexpo

Vinexpo, Bordeaux, France – 20 June 2017: Walsh Whiskey Distillery, one of the leading distilleries in the Irish whiskey renaissance, has signed an exclusive agreement with Dugas of Paris, for the distribution, throughout France, of its range of Writers’ Tears premium Irish whiskeys from the 1^st September 2017. The contracts were signed at Vinexpo 2017 in Bordeaux by the founders and Chief Executives of the two companies, M. Francois-Xavier Dugas and Bernard Walsh.

Established in 1980 by Monsieur Francois-Xavier Dugas, the Dugas company is a renowned distributor of leading spirits with a particular emphasis on Irish and Scottish whiskeys, rums, fortified wines and eaux de vies.

Announcing the partnership at Vinexpo 2017 in Bordeaux, Walsh Whiskey founder and Managing Director Bernard Walsh said: “We believe Dugas is a great fit for Writers’ Tears through its exclusive network of high-end bars and retail outlets across France which is one of our priority markets worldwide. We look forward to a successful, long-term partnership with Dugas.”

Monsieur Dugas said:  “We have known each other very well for a few years. Knowing the great quality of their whiskeys, it’s an honor for us to distribute Writer Tears and build the brand on the selective market. We strongly think that Writer Tears should be a great success with its trendy and modern look and feel.”

Writers Tears is a unique expression in the world of whiskey that honours the last golden era of Irish whiskey. In the 19^th century Irish Whiskey was distilled exclusively in copper pots. The two styles that flourished; Malt and Pot Still, were distilled from 100% Irish Barley.

The marriage of both styles became known as the Champagne of Irish Whiskey. A style of whiskey loved by many of the great Irish writers of the time, both for its full-bodied, delectable taste and its uncanny ability to dissolve writer’s block, replacing it with an inspirational flow of contemplation!

The Writers’ Tears range comprises three premium and super premium whiskeys, namely:

• Writers Tears’– Copper Pot: a unique vatting of Single Malt and Single Pot Still whiskeys. Distilled from 60% Pot Still and 40% Malt (No Grain), triple distilled, non -peated and matured and aged in American Oak bourbon casks.
  • One of the highest rated Irish whiskeys in Jim Murrays iconic “Whiskey Bible”, it is also included in Ian Buxton’s publication “101 Whiskeys to try before you die”.
• Writers Tears’ – Red Head Single Malt: an exquisite, triple-distilled single malt matured only in select handpicked Spanish sherry butts which have previously been seasoned with the finest Oloroso sherry. The influence of these scarce butts that give this expression of Writers’ Tears its signature rich, ruby hue and hence the moniker – ‘Red Head’. The expression is distilled without chill filtering as nature intended and at a distinctive 46% ABV.
• Writers Tears’ – Cask Strength: an annual release of circa 53% proof, it is a vatting of Single Pot Still and Single Malt, distilled 3 times and carefully aged in American Oak Casks. Each year Bernard Walsh selects a handful of exceptional casks to make this the benchmark for Super Premium Cask Strength Irish Whiskey. It is available in strictly limited quantities.
