I was lucky enough to recently spend a representing Walsh Whiskey in Russia. The aim of the visit was to support The Irishman’s new distributor in Russia, Simple.
On day one. I took the high speed train from Moscow to St. Petersburg to begin a day of education, training and market visits. My first visit involved presenting to over twenty craft cocktail bar staff from various bars around Russia. This was my first time to use a translator during a presentation which was interesting. The attendees were extremely courteous and welcoming. Following this presentation, I met with the head of hotels for Simple St. Petersburg and we visited the top hotels in St. Petersburg and presented the range.
Simple has an amazing portfolio of premium spirits and everyone thoroughly enjoyed learning about and tasting the newest additions to their portfolio. The following day was much more education based. I had the opportunity to present the whiskeys to all the Simple sales staff for St. Petersburg. Educating sales people is always enjoyable as we can relate to each other and sales people love great products!
Following my presentation, I dashed away to away to visit a number of super premium boutiques and was lucky enough to meet with and discuss whiskey with some of the top whiskey enthusiasts in St. Petersburg. On Tuesday evening, I hosted an event in St. Petersburg famous Kempinsky hotel for Simple’s corporate guests. It was truly an unforgettable experience to present in such a beautiful hotel with amazing history. The reception was fantastic and the crowd were surprised at the end when I presented The Irishman 17 Year Old Single Malt to them.
The next stop on my trip was Moscow. The Moscow leg involved many market visits and presentations. My personal highlight of the trip was my presentation to The Whisky rooms. The Whisky rooms are one of the most prestigious private whisky clubs in Russia and I had the opportunity to present to its esteemed members. Of course, The Irishman range went down an absolute treat and the night was a huge success. It was one of the highlights of my time with Walsh Whiskey.
The following day, I was back in the Simple offices educating the various departments on our whiskies. I travelled to some whiskey boutiques and presented to them and even had the opportunity to take The Irishman Cask Strength on a trip to the Red Square. This trip was very exciting and I’m delighted to see how successful our future will be in Russia.
