15 February 2016 – Royal Oak, Ireland: Walsh Whiskey Distillery is pleased to announce new distribution agreements and listings, on either side of the Atlantic Ocean, in Canada, Finland and Sweden. Both Finland and Sweden and parts of Canada are monopoly markets where the sale and distribution of alcohol are undertaken through State companies.
To date Walsh Whiskey Distillery’s leading brand in Canada has been Writers Tears which is listed in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario, where it is the number one premium Irish whiskey listed. Writers Tears is distributed in Canada through Woodman Wine & Spirits, a full service agent of The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) – one of the world’s largest single purchasers of alcoholic beverage products.
Walsh Whiskey Distillery is now broadening its portfolio in Canada through the listing of The Irishman in both Ontario and Manitoba via their agent Kirkwood Diamond.
- The Irishman – Single Malt will be available in the LCBO as a Vintages release from May (2016). Vintages (vintages.com) is the fine wine and premium spirits business unit of the LCBO.
- From the end of February (2016), the super premium The Irishman – Founders Reserve (the original brand in the company’s portfolio) will be listed in 20 liquor-mart stores in Manitoba.
From the 1st of February, the Walsh Whiskey Distillery portfolio is now exclusively distributed in Finland by Alpha Beverages which operates as an importer and distributor of wines, spirits and other mild alcoholic beverages in Finland. Alpha Beverages is part of the Altia Group.
Alpha Beverages will distribute and supply Walsh Whiskey Distillery brands to both the on-trade in Finland as well as the ALKO monopoly shops where The Irishman 70 500ml is already listed.
In Sweden, Philipson Söderberg is now the exclusive distributor of the Walsh Whiskey Distillery portfolio of brands. Through Philipson Söderberg, Walsh Whiskey Distillery aims to grow it’s current listing while also building it’s whiskey brands through the on-trade in cities such as Stockholm, Malmo and Gothenberg. The Irishman 350ml is available in Systembaloget stores in Sweden.
Commenting on the agreement with Philipson Söderberg, Walsh Whiskey Distillery founder, Bernard Walsh, said: “We are very excited to be working with such an energetic and dynamic team in Sweden. They are renowned for their portfolio of premium brands which makes them such a good fit for Writers Tears and The Irishman.”
With a strong and well diversified portfolio of brands, Philipson Söderberg is a leading player in the Swedish market place for alcoholic beverages. Established in 1954, Philipson Söderberg markets and sells quality alcoholic beverages all over Sweden.
