SPIRITS ARE HIGH AT WALSH WHISKEY DISTILLERY!

Carlow, Ireland

12 STRONG DISTILLERY TEAM GEARS UP FOR PRODUCTION

11 February 2016 – Royal Oak, Carlow: A 12-strong distillery team has been recruited by Walsh Whiskey Distillery at Royal Oak in County Carlow, one of the largest independent whiskey distilleries in the country. The team members mainly come from Counties Carlow and Kilkenny with one member from Laois. The family-run producer of super-premium, craft whiskeys, The Irishman and Writers Tears, is gearing-up for production to commence in late Spring.

The distillery will operate on a 24/7 basis with the team lead by the Distillery Manager, Aidan Finnegan, responsible for everything from grain intake, mashing, fermentation and distilling as well as cask handling and filling. The distillery will be unique as the only distillery in Ireland to produce all three types of Irish whiskey in one still house, namely – pot, malt and grain.

Commenting on the addition of 12 new employees, as construction nears completion and thoughts turn to commencing production at Royal Oak, Bernard Walsh said: “It is a very exciting time for everyone associated with Walsh Whiskey Distillery both in Ireland and the 36 countries we export to around the world. With the distillery almost built and our pot and column stills ready to be fired up, it is time for the distillery team to commence their training and induction process before our first spirit run in late Spring.”

He added: “The last major construction task is the creation of two massive cooling ponds at the front of the still house. These ponds will be filled with water from the nearby River Barrow and crossed on a pedestrian bridge by visitors to the distillery.”
